Reminders:

September 30th is a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation meant to commemorate the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. On Tuesday, September 29th, students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt or something else with orange to recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Truth and Reconciliation Day. 

Students will be engaging in learning throughout the week to honor this important day. Through read alouds and learning tasks, students will focus on understanding what they each need to feel safe and cared for at school and to consider this question: “What action can each member of our school community do to make sure every student feels safe and cared for at school, everyday?” This is an opportunity for Northern Lights students and staff to come together in the spirit of reconciliation to show their support of a safe, respectful and caring school community.

Tomorrow night is Meet the Teacher Open House night from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. You do not stay the whole time, just drop in at a time that works for you!! We would love to see you! Also there will be Food Trucks outside the school - yummy!!!!!

Highights of Grade Three:

• we have been practicing our place value up to hundred thousand! Check out below for some ideas on how I can practice at home!

• we had our first lockdown practice today and we did awesome!!
• we did literacy stations yestrday and Monday
• we had a substitute teacher yesterday so Mrs. Stewart could do reading assessments.
• we read The Orange Shirt Story and talked about why it is important to learn about things that are sad and what we can do to make sure those things don't happen again
• we made an orange shirt filled with hearts to show our support of Indigenous Children and to say that All Children Matter. Ask me why there is a blue heart in amongst all the orange hearts
• we went to Phys. Ed and Music
• we did a gummy bear experiment and made observations about them - ask me about this
• we started to learn about solids, liquids and gasses.
